How to Win

So I have a pretty brilliant idea but to make it work I need YOU to help.

My novel AWKWARD is about Mackenzie Wellesley, a seventeen-year-old high school junior who accidentally knocks over a football player…then accidentally panics as she tries to do CPR…which she accidentally didn’t realize he didn’t need in the first place…and the whole incident? Yeah, not so accidentally posted on YouTube. That’s how she becomes an overnight internet sensation.

So here’s the part where YOU can be completely awesome: I would love to have a book trailer. And it can take tons of different forms: Puppets. Posters. Cartoons. Clay-mation. You can create a song (although warning: awkward doesn’t rhyme with much. The best I could come up with was “Guac hard” as in, guacamole. With chips. Yum!) or if that’s not your style, you can make a video confessing one of YOUR awkward moments. The point is to have fun and be creative.

And of course, I’ve got prizes for a few select winners. These include a free, signed copy of AWKWARD, having a character named after YOU in one of my books AND landing on my dedication page!

Good luck, everyone!

    • sorry but this doesnt have anything to do with your statement but i loved decked with holly and really hoping you think would write a second book . I really want to know how nick and holly relationships going. Love your books thanks

      • Hi Georgia!

Thank you so much! I’m thrilled you enjoyed reading Decked with Holly–I had a blast writing it. I suspect you might also enjoy reading Awkward and Invisible (the boys of ReadySet make an appearance), which are both out right now. Notable (Chelsea’s book! I can’t wait for you to meet her!) comes out in November and I’m working on something right now that should make you pretty darn happy…I certainly hope so, anyway!

Thanks again for your enthusiasm, support, and encouragement. You rock!

  1. Marni I enjoyed your book Awkward. First of all I am more than twice the age of your main character. Your book pulled me in. Promotion Poem for Awkward.
    MacKenzie don’t call her Mack.
Accidentally hit a boy with her backpack.
    Whole incident was in YouTube.
    Suddenly from square to cube.
From tutoring Logan to singing with ReadySet too.
Because of Patrick and Chelsea, Mackenzie boo hoo hoo.
Invisible to Notable back to invisible.
Ellen calls and Mack with ReadySet become very visible.
Mack starts with apology then becomes love confession.
Factoid-obsessed teen substituting fricking for the other “f” word needs to be mentioned

  2. This is honestly one of my favorite books now. I read it all in one day because it was to interesting to put down . I just graduated high school and I too was really awkward . I couldn’t even talk to a guy without blushing and the fact Im 6’0″ didn’t help my game much either . This book helped me realize awkwardness isn’t to be taken as a curse all the time , and to be embraced at the right times . Thank you very much for your creative words and I look forward to Invisible !

    • Hi McKinley!

I’m so glad you enjoyed Awkward! After I read your message, I had to do my happy dance. I’m thrilled that my book helped you feel better about your level of awkwardness, although I wouldn’t be surprised if the only person who sees anything wrong with your game is you. 😀

I have a spin off sequel coming out before Invisible that I think you are going to love! Decked with Holly will be released September 25th. It isn’t set at Smith High School, but it does include some of my personal favorite characters from Awkward (*cough* Tim), and it is a whole lot of fun. I just received some advanced reader copies of Decked with Holly, so be sure to keep checking my website for opportunities to win a copy! I can’t wait to hear what you think of it!

      Sincerely,
      Marni

  3. I do not know if it’s still open, but I did this poster with lots of love. This book is on the wish list and I can not imagine what it would have it autographed. Worth gifts, or not, wait you like it!

It’s simple, done by an amateur (me), but that’s what I understood and I hope to Awkward.

    kisses

    • Hi Cris!

Your poster is absolutely amazing! I love what you created for Awkward. You are my final contest winner for Awkward. I will send you a signed copy of Awkward if you email your address to me at Marnirbates@gmailcom.

Thanks again for sending me your work of art!

      Sincerely,
      Marni

    • Hi Maddie!

I’m so glad you are enjoying my books! I had an absolute blast writing DECKED WITH HOLLY, but while Nick does make a very small guest appearance in AWKWARDLY EVER AFTER (July 2014) that’s all I have planned for him at this time. I’m actually working on a brand new series that already has me geeking out. One of the guys…well, let’s just say he’s giving Nick some fierce competition in the swoon-worthy department right now. I can’t wait to share it with you!

Thank you so much for your support and encouragement! It absolutely means the world to me!

      Wishing you all the best!
      ~M
